Kuala Lumpur, May 17th, 2001 - Leading cooling and heating technology
provider Linear Corporation Berhad today announced a two-year corporate
sponsorship deal for budding local professional golfer, Steven Tan Poh
Gan.
Ranked 10th by the Malaysian PGA, the 25-year old who was selected to
represent Australia in the World University Games in 1997 will be given
an undisclosed sponsorship package designed to meet his expenses and ambition
to become a top-ranked professional in the region.
Hitting the fairways as Linear’s golf ambassador for the first time,
Steven will be making his "debut" as a guest in the Rotary Charity
Golf Tournament 2001 held at the Pearl Island Country Club in Penang
"We are honoured to sponsor a young talented golfer like Steven Tan.
We believe it is our social responsibility as a corporate citizen to nature
budding local talent. He has tremendous potential and will go a long way
in achieving his ambition to play in the Masters one day." Said Jerry
Chin, Chief Executive Officer of Linear Corporation Berhad, sponsors for
the event.
Steven will pit his skills against over 100 golfing Rotarians and invited
guests who will be vying to win any of the three hole-in-one prizes put
up by the sponsors.
A charity event, with the proceed going to the purchase of training equipment
for ASIA Community Service and various other charitable organisations
in Penang, participating golfers will vie for the Challenge Trophy donated
by Rotarian Dr. Lim Eng Keong.
Lucky golfers in the tournament, stand to win great prizes such as a TD
2000 Car sponsored by TD Cars (Malaysia), a Yamaha Virago XV535 Easy Rider
motorcycle and an energy efficient Quantum Enviro Water Heater System
sponsored by Linear Cooling Industries.
